Regional Round-up


Regional councils, comprised of leaders selected by local child welfare boards (CWBs), operate according to region's needs and fulfill objectives outlined in cost-reimbursement contracts with DFPS. Regional councils serve as an informational conduit between county boards and the Texas Council of Child Welfare Boards. Members often partner with CPS staff in training activities, foster/adopt recruitment efforts, promotion of child abuse prevention, support of youth in transition programs; and volunteers are engaged in advocacy at the local, state and national levels. See the summary below reflecting the number of counties per region, the number of child welfare boards (CWBs), and general information on regional council meetings that is subject to change.

Region 1: 41 counties, 26 CWBs (cover 27 counties); Panhandle Regional Council of Child Protective Boards meets 3-4 times yearly, usually on Saturdays video-conferencing from Amarillo and Lubbock.

Region 2: 30 counties, 27 CWBs; Region 2 Child Welfare Advisory Council meets 3-4 times yearly on Tuesdays at 10:30 AM, location varies.

Region 3: 19 counties, 19 CWBs; North Central Texas Child Protective Services Council, Inc., meets 3-4 times yearly, usually in CPS office in Arlington.

Region 4: 23 counties, 23 CWBs, 2 CWBs meet as necessary; Region 4 Child Welfare Advisory Board (Northeast Texas) meets 3-4 times yearly, usually in Tyler, times & places to be announced, usually in January, May, August and November.

Region 5: 15 counties, 15 CWBs; Child Welfare Board Region 5 meets 4 times yearly, at a local bank in Jasper on 2nd Tuesday at 7:00 PM, in September, December, March and June.

Region 6: 13 counties, 12 CWBs (cover 13 counties); Region 6 Child Welfare Boards, Inc. meets 3 times yearly + 1 summer planning meeting, at Harris County CPS office in Houston, on 1st Wednesday at noon following TCCWB meetings.

Region 7: 30 counties, 30 CWBs; Central Texas Council of Child Protective Boards meets 5 times yearly + 1 summer planning meeting, at local church in Salado at 10:00 AM, in January, March, May, September and November.

Region 8: 28 counties, 24 CWBs; Region 8 Child Welfare Board meets 2 times yearly, at CPS regional office in San Antonio, usually late afternoon in November and May.

Region 9: 30 counties, 18 CWBs; Region 9 Child Welfare Advisory Council, Inc. meets 3 times yearly, at local restaurant in San Angelo or Midland at 10:00 AM, on last Wednesday of the quarter.

Region 10: 6 counties, 5 CWBs; regional council currently in reorganization, Brewster and El Paso Counties are represented at TCCWB meetings.

Region 11: 19 counties, 11 CWBs (+ 7 inactive); Regional Council of Child Welfare Boards in Region 11 meets 2 times yearly, times & places to be announced, in Corpus Christi, Kingsville or other central location, on Saturday, usually October and March or May.
